The Hamptons Home Where Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Summered as a Child Is Listed for $55M

There are few homes in America that define a time, a place, and a heritage quite like the Bouvier family’s former East Hampton estate, known as Lasata—or “place of peace.”

The house was built in 1917, and Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis spent her summers there as a child.

The grand estate last changed hands in July 2021, when it was reportedly sold for $25 million to TV producer David Zander.

It’s now up for grabs again. This time, though, it’s listed for $55 million.

During the latest owner’s short time with the place, the home’s interiors were “painstakingly updated and enhanced while preserving its remarkable history,” says Eileen O’Neill, of the Corcoran Group, in an interview with House Beautiful.

Immense in size and pedigree, the estate sprawls across 7 acres, marked by rolling, green lawns; box hedges; a lush flower meadow; a classic, rectangular pool; and century-old linden, London plane, cork, and American elm trees.

Buildings on the property include an eight-bedroom main house; a separate, two-bedroom guest cottage; a caretaker’s cottage; a pool house; and a three-car garage with a workshop.

The consummately tasteful interiors were recently reimagined by esteemed designer Pierre Yovanovitch. There are uniquely coffered walls, tiled fireplaces, a dining room that could double as a library, and a chic primary suite with a fireplace and sitting area.

You can practically hear the footsteps of American aristocracy, striding across the herringbone-patterned, wood floor and up the entryway staircase.

And you can definitely hear the crashing ocean nearby—the property is a quick jaunt to East Hampton’s famous Two-Mile Hollow Beach and the posh Maidstone country club.

Onassis, née Bouvier, was born in nearby Southampton Hospital and spent many summers in this place—the home her grandparents, Maude Sergeant Bouvier and John Vernou Bouvier Jr., purchased in 1925.
