Ready for Its Close-Up: Gabor Estate in Palm Springs Slinks Onto the Market for $3.8M

Does the idea of owning a fabulous, flamingo-pink, luxury home appeal to you? Then run, don’t walk, to Palm Springs, CA.

Intrigued? Well, there’s more: It once belonged to “the Kardashians of the 1960s and ’70s.”

This marvelous, midcentury modern estate—where Hollywood’s world-famous Gabor sisters lived—is available for $3.8 million.

Real estate agent Brandon Holland, of Avenue 8, has the skinny on the desert oasis that Magda and Zsa Zsa lived in for decades.

Holland, who made the Kardashian comparison, notes that the Gabor sisters had 22 husbands between them.

“There’s nothing like it in all of Palm Springs,” Holland says of the house, which has remarkable views. “It can never be duplicated.”

The striking property is perched at the top of a chic neighborhood known as “Little Tuscany.”

And believe it or not, the current homeowner—Design Diva of the Desert, Tracy Turco—added even more glamour and sparkle to the three-bedroom, four-bath abode.

Turco is famous for her maximalist, midcentury design work on boutique hotels such as the Tiki, Art, and Cheetah. She has also worked on several private residences, including the Tiki House, which is also on the market.

Turco actually lived in this stylish, 3,441-square-foot space, which she purchased in 2020 for $1,740,000. She sought to preserve the fabulous Gabor vibe and belongings, while adding her own touches.

For instance, the pink exterior was Turco’s idea. When the house was built in 1964, it was a white beacon on the hill.

Inside, Turco added more hot pink; stylish, black-and-white striped curtains and awnings; brightly colored upholstery; and even a dazzling, golden bathtub.

Turco offset the brilliance of her fabrics with custom-designed wallpaper, combining vivid prints and hues.

But there’s no improving upon certain original features—like the home’s classic stone flooring, Hollywood Regency detailing, and plentiful mirrors. Some of those mirrors are even embossed with Magda’s initials.

Other original features include two portraits of Magda; her shiny, black grand piano; various chandeliers; and ornate, wrought-iron pool furniture—expertly reupholstered, of course.

The home sale includes the paintings, furnishings, and accessories, Holland says.

The primary bedroom wing is perfectly suited for any well-established glamour gal, with a sitting room (or office), dressing room, makeup room, and luxe bath that overlooks the pool and the desert.

The kitchen is also a sight to behold. It features modern Viking appliances, including a 60-inch range with dual ovens, plus a griddle, refrigerator, wine fridge, dishwasher, and warming drawer.

The home also has unique period features, such as an ornate ceiling, glass cabinetry, and a Hungarian rotisserie.

Holland says his absolute favorite feature is the home’s expansive terrace overlooking the mosaic-tiled swimming pool.

He notes that the view is spectacular, “because you’re as far up in Little Tuscany as you can be. There’s nothing above you.”
