Divine Details: $5.2M Historic Georgian Mansion with a Chapel Is Nebraska's Most Expensive Home

A historic, Georgian mansion in Omaha, NE, has just hit the market for $5,250,000, making it the state’s most expensive home listing.

The elaborate, nine-bedroom estate comes complete with its own chapel and recently made the Realtor.com® list of the Week’s Most Popular Homes.

Built in 1907, the 10,039-square-foot floor plan offers abundant luxury. From a library with a marble fireplace to an enormous, wood-paneled dining room, evidence of the home’s history abounds.

“We recently found a photo album from 1927, and a lot of the fixtures found in the house today are as they were back then,” says listing agent Richard Begley, of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate The Good Life Group. “The ceiling fixtures and sconces match the pictures and are pretty unique to the home.”

Deluxe design is found throughout the stately brick build, which boasts a two-story, center staircase with hand-carved woodwork.

A nearby library is lined with built-in bookcases, and the enormous dining room features wood-paneled walls and a black-marble fireplace.

And yes, there’s a reason for the sanctuary in the living space.

“The Omaha Archdiocese owned the property from the 1930s to 1971,” Begley says. “In the 1930s, they put in the library and the chapel. One of the bishops had the stained glass installed. It sold to the current owner in 1971.”

Other highlights include a breakfast room, solarium, greenhouse, and an elevator.

Plus, there is also a 1,652-square-foot carriage house with beautiful, brick fireplace in the living room. A spacious kitchen in the separate dwelling has been modernized over the years and offers plenty of cabinets and an eat-in dining area. From there, step up to a sliding-glass door that leads to an enormous rooftop deck.

Begley says there has been interest in the property for both residential and commercial use.

“For what it is and where it is, this is really a unique piece of property,” he notes. “It also sits on 4 acres in a premier neighborhood in the city. It’s just a stately, wonderful manor home that has changed over the years for the better. Whoever gets it next will certainly be a lucky owner.”
